Excelsior I vs Klapmuts I

After a rained out weekend last time around, Excelsior Cricket Club are back facing the Klapmuts team that beat our 2nd team a fortnight ago.

Upon arriving at the ground, the team noticed that the pitch was heavily underprepared. Wet, soft and very sticky. We decided that if we won the toss, we would send Klapmuts in to bat. That was not to be. We lost the toss and they sent us into bat.

Our innings went ok with tough batting conditions, with Tahir Fredericks scoring an excellent 65 off 64 balls. We finished with 200 all out in the 50th over.

After the break, we prepared ourselves to utilise the pitch conditions and put them under pressure. Their batsman could not carry their team through even with a brilliant innings by N Samuels, scoring 37 off 43 balls. They reached 104 all out giving Excelsior a 96 run win. Congrats to the boys.

After a disappointing start in the first league match against Raithby and a rained out weekend, Excelsior bounces back well with a bonus-point win. We now need to keep up the good work and keep on going onward and upward.

Excelsior I vs Raithby

The scene was set for a beautiful day of cricket. 26 degrees celsius with cloud cover.

Excelsior I won the toss and elected to field. With full intimidation, our team rattled the opponents with the bowlers keeping things tight. The hosts struggled for runs and could only muster a mere 150 runs all out.

In to bat and the trend stayed the same as our batsman played themselves in, reaching 127/3 by the 31st over. Then all hell broke loose. We tried to chase a bonus point win with only 24 runs left to get. We had to get those runs by the 40th over to obtain said bonus point. We left our guard down and with over-confidence, we lost 7 wickets for only 19 runs. Losing the match (one we should have won easily) by 5 runs. Heartbreak all around.

With that said, I still believe that we showed how to dominate Raithby, but we lacked in decision making. We need to pick ourselves up, re-evaluate and conquer the league.

One day left for the Excelsior II team to take revenge on their first match loss of the season. The boys need to make up and show strength in this league. Good luck, boys!
