League: Cape Winelands South 50 Overs

Excelsior I vs Saron I

The boys did it again! Another win under the belt. 3 in 3 and going strong.

The day started with Saron been put in to bat. Their opening pair started well. After drinks, Excelsior 1 fought back and limited Saron’s run rate and piling on the pressure. Saron ended with 239 runs on the board and feeling somewhat confident.

After the break, Excelsior started well with the top three scoring freely and putting the Saron bowlers under pressure. A great stand between S Sederman (36) and J Schreuder (55) putting on a 104 run partnership. The match ended with Excelsior getting over the line in the 47th over with 1 wicket to spare. A bit close for some, but a win is a win.

Winning team!

vs

Excelsior II vs Wemmershoek

Close, but no cigar…

Excelsior II came close to beating Wemmershoek on a good batting pitch. Both teams scored freely with W Collins (81), R van Wyn (51), D Kleinhans (50), T Raziet (54) all getting half-centuries in the match.

Unfortunately, Excelsior II fell 20 runs short. Better luck next time, boys.

vs

Excelsior II vs Wolseley

The pundits onsite claim that the conditions are a bit overcast.

A tough day for the boys. Wolseley dominating the match from the get-go and claims the top spot in the league after this win.

vs

Excelsior I vs Mbekweni I

Another one bites the dust…

A great day out for the Excelsior boys! It wasn’t easy, but we made it through. Mbekweni turned out to be a formidable opponent and hats off to them.

On an out and out batting pitch (totally different from the sticky one we played on two weeks ago), we decided that if we win the toss, we will bat. We claimed the toss due to the late arrival by the opponents and was set to bat.

Posting a total of 238/6 in the allotted 50 overs. An excellent partnership of 177 between Y Johnson(103) and D Walbrugh (52) set the bar for Mbekweni. Mbekweni fought back hard in their innings with L Mthandeki scoring 104 off 128 balls, but only to fall short with 11 runs.

A tight game and enjoyable at that. The Excelsior I team continue on their 2-game unbeaten run. There is still more to come as this team grows together and has the ability to overcome obstacles put in their path to win the league. #watch_this_space

vs

Excelsior II vs Saron I

A slow start to our 2nd team’s campaign this season, playing against the 5th spot, Saron’s first team. A team with 1 bonus point win under their name and 1 loss. Can the boys pull one back and get on the scoreboard. Sure they can 🙂

Putting Saron into bat and limiting them to 163 all out, Excelsior II knew that this could be their day and sure it was. An excellent 77* by captain Y Khan and a valuable contribution by D Kleinhans, saw the team through in the 43rd over.

Well done boys!

Gameday!!!
